Forms and Applications

IEA Membership Requirements
Getting Started...

IEA offers our riders unique opportunities to prepare for collegiate riding formats, earn college scholarships, and enjoy team competition and camaraderie while still showing and succeeding with individual recognition at both the local and national level. The draw format is challenging, even for the most accomplished of riders, and improves the horsemanship of all riders. Before joining IEA however, it is important to understand what is required to form and compete as an IEA team.

Team Requirements - Formation:

  • Each team must have a coach. This person must be twenty-one years or older, and must submit proof of insurance ($500,000 minimum per occurrence) with their application and dues.
  • The coach must fill out and submit the Team application and dues. Many teams have a sponsor, representative or other organizer. It is suggested that this person join IEA as a contributing member, so as to have membership rights.
  • In order for team to be eligible to compete as such, there must be three or more rider members in good standing on record. For example, a Hunt Seat upper school team must have at least three hunt seat upper school members; a Western middle school team would need three or more Western middle school members. However, not all members must be present at a competition for the team to be eligible to earn team points.
  • Each rider must fill out both the Individual Member application, and the Waiver of Liability, and submit these and dues. Rider applications must be received by IEA two weeks before they may show in any IEA competition.
  • IEA will assign membership numbers, and send the IEA coach a member roster. The team will then be able to compete at IEA shows.
  • Applications that are incomplete will not be accepted.

Team Requirements - Membership Obligations

  • Each IEA team must host or co-host one regular IEA show each season after the first year or part year of membership.
  • A regular IEA point show must be able to accommodate at minimum of twelve riders in each offered class. Therefore, a show offering only upper school classes would need to be able to field at least eighty-four riders; a middle school show at minimum sixty riders.
  • Teams not meeting this requirement are not allowed to show at zones or nationals, as are all individual riders associated with said team.
  • See Hosting a Regular Point IEA Show for more details on how to apply to host a show.

Showing as a Team

  • At all regular shows, each team submits a point rider form before the draw. This form picks one rider per class (Varsity Open o/f, Varsity Open Flat, etc.) whose individual points earned will also be counted toward the team point total. At the end of the show, the top point earners are placed First through Sixth, and given the points associated with each placing.
  • It is not required to have a point rider in each class, although that is desirable.
  • Some shows may charge an office fee for the team competition.

Please see Rule 2 for a complete listing of all membership rights and responsibilities.
